Michael retired as a Detective Chief Inspector after 43 years in the NSW Police Force, including 40 years as a Detective. In the last 10 years, as a Professional Standards Manager, he carried responsibility for the assessment of misconduct complaints and the qualitative review of investigations into reported misconduct and corruption. During the last three years he was attached to the Office of General Counsel, preparing defences to claims for damages arising from misconduct and appearing for the Commissioner in tribunals up to the District Court.
He worked for seven years at university as a lecturer in investigation practice, evidence law and governance.
For 11 years he was a member of the Army’s special forces, and qualified as an instructor in diverse disciplines.
From this varied professional background, he offers skills in legislative compliance, risk management, complaint resolution, operational planning and the management of complex, nuanced and sensitive investigations.
