Local Government

We have been providing assurance, performance and investigation services to Local Government since 1985, when we started as the NSW Internal Audit Bureau. As a result we have an excellent understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing Councils today.  We build strong internal audit partnerships, conduct quality investigations and deliver highly regarded performance improvement projects.  We are recognised as trusted partners who contribute shared learnings and independent insights to each of our Council clients.

Some of Centium’s Local Government specialists have come from Councils - they include former Chief Executives and General Managers, Governance specialists, Internal Ombudsmen, Finance Managers, Corporate Planners, Policy Managers, and Community Engagement practitioners. Having come from Council, they understand Council.

We have also worked with Local Government Associations, University bodies and State Agencies on Local Government capability, assurance and sector-wide policy projects.

We are approved suppliers on Local Government Procurement Panel LGP-218 for Internal Audit and Management Consulting services. We are also approved Code of Conduct Reviewers, Internal Auditors and Workplace Investigators for over 100 Councils and ROCs, making it easy for Councils to engage us.

State Government

Our origins are firmly established in the Public Sector and we now provide a diverse range of services to numerous State Government agencies, in NSW and nationally.

Clubs, Gaming & Racing

Centium has recent experience providing risk management, audit and assurance services to the liquor, gaming and racing industries in NSW, Victoria and Overseas. A sample of our engagements, which were well received and resulted in significant change and improvements within the industry, is as follows:

  • We conducted numerous internal audits, reviews and investigations for racing regulatory and integrity bodies. As such, we have an excellent understanding of issues confronting the industry, including its animal welfare obligations
  • We undertook a high-level review to ensure bookmakers continue to be appropriately regulated and that the controlling body's integrity and independence is not compromised. The impetus for this review arose as a result of increased interest from interstate and overseas corporate bookmakers to be licensed in relation to sports and fantasy sports betting operations
  • We undertook a detailed performance audit of an overseas-based Gaming Authority's operations. The objective of the review was to assess the adequacy and effectiveness of the Authority’s internal control framework (including the legislative framework, management, operations and governance arrangements) in managing its key strategic and operational risks
  • We conducted a probity review into the selection of Board Members for a high profile racing regulatory Board and assisted the governing agency with the implementation of a complex restructure (including capability framework and role descriptions)

International Trade

Centium has formed a strategic alliance with Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) to assist importers, exporters and international logistics providers in implementing best practice business operations, including business continuity.

Importantly, our support services ideally place businesses involved in global trade to obtain and / or and retain accreditation to the Australian Trusted Trader (ATT) program.

Once accredited by the Australian Border Force (ABF), an entity may be entitled to streamlined processes to expedite the movement of goods across international borders and promote itself as being compliant under the ATT program. This in turn provides the entity with business opportunities to generate resultant revenue streams from current and potential clients.

Centium has developed a facilitated Self-Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) that enables entities wishing to be accredited by the ABF to undertake a pre-accreditation “Health Check” and to address any perceived deficiencies prior to this process.

Our SAQ covers the following key processes:

  • Structure and governance
  • Organisational governance
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Financial management
  • Personnel security
  • Third party screening
  • Systems & Records
  • Cyber security
  • Physical Security
  • Business Continuity Planning

We also provide business continuity, IT disaster recovery and cyber security services to this client group.
