The Commonwealth Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Employment Strategy

November 13, 2015

The Australian Public Service Commission has updated the Implementation Guide to the Commonwealth Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Strategy which aims to build the representation of Indigenous employees in the Commonwealth public sector.

The Strategy supports the Government's target of three per cent Indigenous representation by 2018 and focuses on four key action areas:

  1. Expand the range of Indigenous employment opportunities.
  2. Invest in developing the capability of Indigenous employees.
  3. Increase the representation of Indigenous employees in senior roles.
  4. Improve the awareness of Indigenous culture in the workplace.

The Implementation Guide to the Strategy is a directory of resources, programs and other measures available across the Commonwealth public sector. It provides opportunities for agencies to access or adapt existing initiatives to increase their Indigenous representation.

The update incorporates initiatives of the Department of Education and Training in areas such as recruitment pathways, employee networks, and cultural capability.

If you would like assistance in implementing the Strategy, or if you would like an independent set of expert eyes to advise on where your agency may not be meeting the Strategy, call or email us for a chat on how we may be able to assist.
